The newest member of Gold City is Chris West, who became the permanent bass vocalist in 2015 after serving a long interim fill-in role after legendary bass vocalist Tim Riley suffered a stroke in July 2014.
Chris was born and raised in Jasper, AL, and calls that home today. He grew up on Southern gospel music in the home of his parents Sammy and Gail West, where his father was a huge Kingsmen fan. It was not until Chris was 12 that he heard the Cathedrals for the first time. By then his voice had already changed. He declared to his father after hearing the late George Younce on television, ’’I’m going to do that someday.’’
Having spent some time with Gold City as their sound man in 2011 and filling in on occasion when Tim was not able to sing, Chris is at home on the Gold City bus. He sang with both ’N Harmony and Mercy’s Mark in years past, and had a group with his brother, Craig at one time as well. Gold City fans will remember Craig as a former lead sing for the group several years ago.
Chris admits Tim has left huge shoes to fill, and he realizes he nor anyone else can fill them. He is simply committed to being himself on stage. Tim has actually worked with Chris vocally for the past 8 years. So fans will hear a Riley-trained bass singer when they hear Chris on stage. He considers himself to have learned from the very best, and is excited to add his bass voice to round out Gold City’s vocal harmony.
Chris and his wife, Christy, have been married since 1995 and have two children, son Dillan and daughter Sydney.
